The Wildest Weather Of Winter 2012 (So Far) In Pictures

The whole thing started innocently enough. With snow showers and sun breaks right down to the waters of the Pacific Ocean…and the Willamette River…and the Columbia River.

Don Best took this picture of Rockaway Beach, Oregon on January 16th after an early morning snow shower. There’s just something about Oregon & Washington beaches covered in snow that gets me every time!

Here’s a shot from… Read more

Blogging From Along The Flooding Willamette River

20120121-135934.jpg
I’m not sure how this blog post will look in the site because I’m posting this one on the road from my iPhone.
But you can sure see how the Willamette River looks in Oregon City on Saturday January 21, 2012.
Check out the shelter that’s under water. When we pulled up our six year old said, “Daddy, there’s a roof in the… Read more

That’s right. I’ve heard the rumors of Portland snow. Have you?

I was on a dinner-date with our four year old last night at Buster’s Barbecue. He had the chicken leg kids plate. It comes with a 4-pack of Oreo’s for dessert–and I’m pretty sure it’s the real reason he wants to eat there. I had the beef brisket. That’s the real reason I want to eat… Read more

Magnitude 5.9 Quake Off The Oregon Coast

On Wednesday evening October 12, 2011, a magnitude 5.9 quake rumbled under the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon Coast.

It was a little more than 200miles west-southwest of Newport, Oregon.

This was too small to generate any kind of tsunami (closer to magnitude 7.0 is the approximate ‘tsunami generating size’ of quake you need).

But it’s a reminder that the Pacific Northwest is an earthquake… Read more
