Rare Northwest Storms Drop Inches Of Hail On The Portland-Vancouver Metro Area And Salem

After forecasting in the Willamette area for 15 years, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen pictures like these where the hail is inches deep.

Funnel Cloud Spotted Over Milwaukie

It’s a rare site, but April 6, 2011 was the kind of day where things like this could happen.

Hail, downpours, thunder and lightning.

Deep Avalanche On Mt. Hood; Washington Avalanche Closes Pass

We grumbled so long (and loudly) about our record breaking cold and rain during March 2011 - that the winds finally brought in Portland’s first 60 degree day on March 31, the latest on record.
