Greetings!

Well, how'd you like to save some money on your taxes? Have I got a deal for you!  And this is no email scam, it's the real thing. And a real chance to make a difference in the lives of those with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood related cancers.

Right now, I'm in training for this fall's Portland Marathon. I'm running on behalf of a woman named Luzma. She was diagnosed with a type of lymphoma three years ago, when she was 49. She's fighting the good fight, but treatment has been difficult. Her greatest wish is to find less toxic treatments and new alternatives to what's available now. But it takes money and research to make that happen.

So instead of just running on my own, I decided to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It's part of a national effort called Team In Training. Those of us on "the team" set a goal to raise money so that running the race helps patients and pays for crucial research. In 1960, a child with leukemia had a survival rate of just four percent. Today, thanks to research funded by efforts like Team In Training, that number has climbed to 85% for certain types of leukemia. Adult survival rates are rising, too, but are still at an apalling 40%.

Much more can be done and I hope you and I can partner together in this effort. There are two ways you can help.

  1. Make a donation
  2. Run the marathon with me in October.

I must raise $2,500 dollars this summer. I'm asking you to consider donating money for each mile that I will run (26.2 miles). On the Donation Support Form (pdf file), I’ve listed the amount per mile and the total donation. These are just ideas because any amount helps. And all donations are tax deductible...so there’s that tax savings I promised! You can write a check or if you love miles (I love miles!), you can DONATE ONLINE.
