First Snow At Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood Meadows, Mt. Bachelor

October 5, 2011 by Bruce Sussman Leave a Comment

The snow on early Wednesday October 5, 2011, was  enough to get me thinking about hitting the slopes for the first time this season.

It’s just magic, isn’t it. The anticipation will continue from now until opening day!

This picture shows just enough snow at Mt. Bachelor to cover most of the brown grass at the base area. They had about an inch at the base and a few inches up top.

Next, Mt. Hood Meadows. This image is from the top of the Vista Express Chair and you’d need your rock skis for sure! The resort says the snowiest parts of the mountain did pick up a couple of inches, with just a skiff at the base area. The morning temperature dropped to 32 degrees at the base.

And finally, the view from Timberline Lodge looking at one of the nearby lifts. Very light amounts at the Lodge, but a few inches reported up top. The morning temperature was 30 degrees and holding at the lodge.

Here’s the real bummer, though: we’re headed for a mini-dry stretch and this stuff is going to melt!

Well, what can you do? It’s very, very early in the season, right?
