Presidential Visits To Portland Help Us Fool The Rest Of The Country

July 25, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 3 Comments

When President Obama visits Portland, Oregon, the sun comes out.

I can’t explain why or how. But it does.

And media from around the world documenting his trip show Portland as sunny. Again and again and again!

Last Three Obama Visits To Portland – Nothing But Sunshine
I looked up the last three times President (and Senator) Obama visited Portland. Here’s what I found:

  1. July 24th, 2012 – 81 degrees and sunny
  2. October 20, 2010 – 71 degrees and sunny
  3. May 18, 2008 – 85 degrees and sunny (the day he spoke to 75,000 at Waterfront Park while campaigning for President)

During the President’s visit yesterday he actually mentioned the weather from 2008. That’s what got me started on looking things up.

What’s craziest to me is that I consider October 20 and May 18th to both be part of Portland’s rainy season. Of course, now the rest of the country knows, we don’t even have one!

And just think, if he came to Central Oregon, he and the rest of the world would think that Oregon is the West Coast sunshine state.

      LoLo–
For sure. You guys ‘always’ have the sun. This weekend will be a perfect example! Thanks for your post.

It’ll be just like the Orange Bowl that attracted thousands to California! Maybe they should issue full spectrum lamps at the DMV with all out of state license conversions.
