November 17, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 2 Comments

The Pineapple Express is coming to town. And that rarely means anything good for the northwest except for people who like it really wet and windy. This is our KOIN Local 6 in-house RainCast for 9am Monday. Places like Portland, Vancouver, Salem and Newport will be under a Pacific firehose that, … [Read more...]

Medium Sized Earthquakes In Oregon & Washington: Eerily Quiet

November 16, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 5 Comments

I'm always wondering, behind the scenes, when the 'Big One' or another lesser, but still damaging earthquake, will hit the Willamette Valley. Sure we've had our typical small 'micro-quakes' like the one that rumbled under Sauvie Island on Friday November 16, 2012. But if you think about, it's … [Read more...]

November 2012 in Portland started with record breaking warmth. For example--our lows for the first six days in a row were in the 50s. We've never had six consecutive November low temperatures at or above 50 degrees at PDX since records started being kept there in 1941. Now, it's suddenly … [Read more...]

Records Fall From November Heat, Big Cool Down Ahead

November 4, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 1 Comment

I actually saw people wearing shorts on Sunday November 4, 2012. And for once...it was a good call to wear them! The warm and humid air streaming in from the southwest boosted highs in the metro area into the upper 60s even with just occasional sun breaks. But where the sun really came … [Read more...]

Portland Has An Incredibly Wet October, Now A Drier November?

November 2, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 5 Comments

We know how October works, right? We start warm in Portland. And we end up all wet. But rarely do we get this wet--6.14" of rain, 205% of average! All that and not even in the top 5 wettest Octobers. Oh well, maybe next time. Also, just for fun, I asked KOIN Local 6 Weather Intern Jeff to … [Read more...]
