Oregon & Washington: Coolest In The Entire United States

July 17, 2011 by Bruce Sussman 4 Comments

And I’m not even talking about our cool & damp weekend.

Instead, it’s a longer-term weather trend that shows Oregon and Washington is outpacing the rest of the country in our area of specialty.

Cool Weather.

This map shows the April-June temperature trend for each state. It’s shows how we compare with 117 years of weather records. See the almost purple color for Oregon & Washington? And the number 1 on top? That means we just had our coldest April-June on record!

Idaho and Montana are also quite cold. Even California is on the cool side.

And of course, most of the rest of the country is baking. That bright red and 117 in Texas? It means the state had its hottest April-June on record. Hottest in 117 years of records.

A more regional view for just June 2011 temperatures shows Oregon, Washington & Idaho as the coolest region. But not record cold. That’s an improvement, right?

But we all know how July is turning out–unusually cool.

At least there’s still August.

Maybe then we’ll get some sunshine and have summer weather in places like Portland, Seattle and the rest of the Northwest.

“You know what they say about Portland weather…wait a few days, it’ll get worse…”.

Where did I hear that? OH! I said it, uh, a few days ago.

Sure, let’s complain about beautiful weather in the 70’s when the rest of the country is burrowing underground to escape the extreme heat. I haven’t used AC yet this year, but I sure haven’t been cold. It’s the best summer weather I can remember.

Uhhh…its supposed to be summer. We are complaining about the rain and the gloomy clouds that we have this summer. We get this weather 10 months out the the year, so we all want 90 degree weather. You are obviously one of those Oregonians who think Oregon weather is the best in the world. I bet you are going to say, “if you don’t like it, leave”
