‘Weather-whiplash’ Hits Portland And The Northwest

November 8, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 2 Comments

November 2012 in Portland started with record breaking warmth.

For example–our lows for the first six days in a row were in the 50s. We’ve never had six consecutive November low temperatures at or above 50 degrees at PDX since records started being kept there in 1941.

Now, it’s suddenly cold. Portland’s had its first morning in the 30s since last April–and coolest highs since then, too.

Plus the snow is flying again on Mt. Hood (at least a little bit) and check out the video from south of Sunriver where they had 6″ in LaPine, Oregon.

When Is Portland’s First Freeze, On Average?

If you’ve got questions about when we typically see our first freeze (or Portland’s record early and late freezes) then this graphic is for you. We may hit freezing over the weekend. That’s what I call weather-whiplash!

Bruce: My first freeze happened this morning! 30F. I wouldn’t be surprised if yours happens tommorrow.
