Records To Beat When It Comes To Portland May Heat

May 12, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 2 Comments

I think some records will fall in the next three days but not as many as you would expect.

Probably because we’re used to cool May weather. In fact, this is the first May where we’ve hit 80 degrees or more since May 2009!

These are the Portland records to beat for the next three days:

  • May 12 – 87 degrees (update-we hit 84)
  • May 13 – 92 degrees (update-we hit 87)
  • May 14 – 86 degrees (update-we hit 88–breaking this record from 1973!)

What are Portland’s All Time Record Highs For May?

  • 100 degrees at the Portland Airport – May 28, 1983
  • 103 degrees in Downtown Portland – May 28, 1983

I’m glad you mentioned the all time records back in late May 1983. That was a real heat wave all over the Pacific Northwest. One station here in BC even got up to 107F on May 29th, 1983.

Thanks for letting me know about the 107–that is just incredible!
