New Estimates On How Mega-Quake Will Devastate Oregon and Washington

March 14, 2013 by Bruce Sussman 4 Comments

Almost exactly two years after the Japan mega-quake and tsunami, Oregon lawmakers heard the grim news:

It’s only a matter of time before the next mega-quake and tsunami happen off the coast of Oregon, Washington and Northern California. And the damage and devastation–and loss of life–will be like anything we Oregonians and Washingtonians have seen in our lifetime.

Check out the chilling article on the coming Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake off the Coast of Oregon, Washington and California.

You ask is I ever lose sleep at night over anything weather or science related? This is the event I worry about most.

The image in this post–is a Japan tsunami energy map. The most intense outgoing wave energy is the purple, racing away from Japan. Someday the map will look much different. The energy will be racing both toward and away from our coastline. With the purple — the most intense wave energy — centered off the coast of Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

I woke up this morning to hear on the radio that tremors have been felt off the coast of BC early today. It might not be anything serious, but who knows. Anyway, I have recorded more rain in the first 2 weeks of march than all of February.

BTW… There is a FB page for the PNSN (Pacific Northwest Seismic Network), they answer a lot of Northwest earthquake questions.

      Jory–

Thank you. That is great information and I can’t wait to read the actual report myself. I really appreciate you taking time to post this.
