Portland Heatwave – Updated Hot Stats

June 30, 2013 by Bruce Sussman 1 Comment

Just before writing this blog post–I went for a walk.

It was 10:30pm Saturday night and still a rather humid 79 degrees in Portland!

Here are the ‘hot stats’ of this Portland and northwest heatwave. I’ll update these this week!

92 degrees – Portland heatwave day one – Friday June 28, 2013
**Portland’s first 90 degree day of the year
**Hottest Portland temperature since September 7, 2012 (almost 300 days)
**Noon temperature: 78
**6pm temperature: 91
**9pm temperature: 79

88 degrees – Portland heatwave day two – Saturday June 29, 2013
**Likely coolest day of the heatwave
**Noon temperature: 79
**6pm temperature: 87
**9pm temperature: 80
**Record warm low temperatures happened on day two in three places: 58 in Astoria, 61 in Salem & 61 in McMinnville

97 degrees! – Portland heatwave day three – Sunday June 30, 2013
**Noon temperature: 82
**6pm  temperature: 96
**9pm temperature: 84
All this heat—and NOT a record—Record to beat was 100 degrees, back in 1942
**Eugene tied it’s record high for the date by hitting 96 degrees

91 degrees – Portland heatwave day four – Monday July 1, 2013
**Noon temperature: 78
**6pm temperature: 89
**9pm temperature: 79

Was this record breaking heat for Portland?

Nope. Our records for this week are 97-105 degrees. And that 97 degree high was on the wrong day to even tie a record. Oh well, maybe next time!

Hi Bruce; Yes, I’ve seen new records for maximum temperatures here on June 30th and July 1st. June 30th we recorded 90.7F and 90.5F today. It would have been warmer today, but around 5pm the wind shifted and picked up speed, so I think the “marine push” is coming in.
