Powerful November Storm Matches Winds From Category 3 Hurricane

November 20, 2012 by Bruce Sussman 1 Comment

Check out these peak gusts along the Oregon and Washington Coasts. The top gusts are the same force as winds you’d see in a major category 3 hurricane.

No wonder we had so much damage and so much power out on Monday November 19, 2012. Peak gusts in the Willamette Valley topped out at 51mph in McMinnville and in the metro area the strongest gust was in Hillsboro at 48mph.

And now here are the incredible rain totals. These matched up pretty well with the forecast I gave on KOIN Local 6 News on Friday–and with my post over the weekend. But I don’t believe any of these were records because we were up against a flooding day from November 1996 when Portland had almost 3″ of rain!

This could be (and hopefully is!) one of our strongest and wettest storms of the entire rainy season. We’ll see.
