Mother Nature Cooks Up Broken Records During Thanksgiving Week 2011

The biggest day for records was Tuesday November 22, 2011.

Just check out the Portland Airport stats in this graphic where records have been kept since 1940.

If you had relatives visiting this week–don’t let them whine about all the rain. Instead, tell them to be thankful they witnessed history!

Of course I wouldn’t feel this way if my relatives were trapped indoors with all of us for three long days of stormy November weather….but anyway…so many one day records fell on Tuesday I can’t list them all. So, check out the Salmon swimming across the road this week. Or, let’s look at the bigger picture.

Three Day Northwest Storm Totals – Portland, Vancouver & Beyond – Monday Through Wednesday

• 3.21″ Hillsboro
• 3.40″ Gresham
• 3.55″ Portland (PDX)
• 3.55″ Vancouver (should we call these the ‘twin cities’?)
• 3.67″ Astoria
• 4.00″ SE Portland
• 4.70″ Forest Grove
• 5.69″ Tillamook
• 9.00″ Cedar, Oregon – in the Coast Range
• 10.50″ June Lake, Washington – in the Cascades

And how about these amazing peak wind gusts, whipped up as part of the Thanksgiving week weather feast on Tuesday November 22, 2011:

• 97mph – Mt. Hebo, Oregon – Coast Range
• 100mph – Rattlesnake Mountain, Washington – Cascades Foothills
• 106mph – Crystal Mountain, Washington – Cascades

I wish I could’ve written this post to include four day totals since we’ve got another system coming in today. But hey, it’s Thanksgiving and I’ll probably be napping long before those totals are available, anyway!
