Crazy High Temperatures At The Oregon Coast And Portland’s First 80 Degree Day Of The Year

June 6, 2011 by Bruce Sussman 1 Comment

It’s one of my favorite names in Oregon: Cape Foulweather.

But on the first Saturday of June 2011, Cape Foulweather (along the Oregon Coast) hit 80 degrees.

Hey, you can’t always judge a place by it’s name!

Incredible Weekend Highs Along The Oregon Coast

  • Newport – 80 degrees
  • Tillamook – 84 degrees
  • Pacific City – 88 degrees

Portland’s First 80 Degree Day Of  The Year

Being the over-achievers that we are around here (ha-ha-ha) Portland refused to stop at 80 and instead zoomed to 86 degrees on Saturday June 4, 2011. It was the Rose City’s first 80 plus degree day of 2011 and the hottest day in 9 whole months!

For the record, our average date to hit 80 for the first time is May 7. But here are the actual dates for the last few years:

  • 2006 – April 28 – 81 degrees
  • 2007 – May 7 – 80 degrees
  • 2008 – May 15 – 87 degrees
  • 2009 - April 20 – 83 degrees
  • 2010 – June 12 – 81 degrees
  • 2011 – June 4 – 86 degrees

The hottest place in the I-5 Corridor was Camas, Washington. You went for a nice round number: 90 degrees! These temperatures were made possible by the power of the wind combining with strong sunshine.

So, would you like more of this heat — or was one weekend enough to satisfy you for awhile?
